Somerset County Regional Center Greenway

In 2008, Somerset County initiated the Regional Center Pedestrian, Bicycle and Greenways Systems Plan with the goal of creating a walkable and bicycle-friendly Regional Center. The Plan establishes a strategic framework to guide policies, programs and actions of three municipalities. It proposes a Greenways System of “Complete Streets” and off-road trails that encourage walking and bicycling by connecting train stations, neighborhoods, office and downtown retail.

As project Landscape Architect, David Lustberg and James Ribaudo provided analysis and design services for the various Greenways typologies.  The process began with Visioning and “Inspiration” boards driven by stakeholder input.  A “Tree Canopy Analysis” determined areas in particular need of additional tree cover.  Concepts plans and logos were developed to brand the system and help the community and stakeholders envision the results of this plan.  Graphic techniques including 3D Simulations, Photo Montages and GIS Mapping were used to communicate the concepts.
