Newark Broad Street Station Plaza Design

In an effort to improve commuter circulation and connectivity throughout Newark and the New York City Metro area, New Jersey Transit has begun a major renovation of its commuter facilities at Newark’s Broad Street Station, a major multi-modal commuter hub. The historic station is located on a 3⁄4 acre urban plaza that acts as both a commuter hub and civic space crucial not only to the station but to the surrounding redevelopment area.

Working with the NJ Transit Planning and Engineering Departments, David Lustberg led an urban design and planning effort for the design of this major multi-modal transit hub from concept through 30% construction documents. The final design creates a vibrant but sustainable civic space while successfully accommodating train, bus, taxi, and lightrail.
